Smalling suffers big injury

Chris Smalling will miss England's Euro 2012 campaign with a groin injury.

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson confirmed the news this morning after Smalling picked up the problem during last week's win over Swansea at Old Trafford.

Fergie said: "Chris has suffered a bad injury.

“It is a groin muscle injury and he will miss the European Championships.

“We are assessing what to do at the moment but it is a bad injury.”

While defender Smalling will sit out the tournament this summer, United team-mate Danny Welbeck is expected to shrug off an ankle injury in time to take part.

Ferguson added: "He is still out just now but he should be fit for the Euros. - www.thesun.co.uk
