Carroll: 'I've settled down'

Andy Carroll has shot down the cynics who wrote him off as a hard-drinking wild man.

eAnd Liverpool’s £35million striker insists he spends his nights in front of the box rather than a bar.

Carroll won Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against neighbours Everton with a late header.

He said: “My past is my past. I changed my lifestyle when I came to Liverpool and settled down. I love it here.”

Carroll’s late goal at the weekend guaranteed him cult Kop status for life and it came just four days after another header saw off Blackburn.

But it has been a long road as he arrived at Anfield with a reputation for off-the-field antics at Newcastle and with a niggling knee injury.

He added: “People will say to me ‘Oh, you were in the boozer last week’ but it is just rumours going round.

“Now I just laugh it off. To be honest, I don’t go out at all.

“I know what people say is not true, my family knows it’s not true and the club knows it’s not true.

“All I do now is sit in the house with my girlfriend, chill out and watch movies.”

Carroll, 23, is determined to repay Reds boss Kenny Dalglish’s faith in him with a bagful of goals.

He said: “When I signed I wasn’t fit but I feel great now. I am a fighter. I am determined to do well.” - www.thesun.co.uk
