Suarez: Play me with Carroll
Luis Suarez has told Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish: Play me alongside Andy Carroll.
Liverpool’s controversial striker is hell bent on becoming an FA Cup winner — and is in no mood for Everton to stop him at Wembley today.
The Uruguayan has hardly hit it off up front with £35million Carroll this campaign.
But he said: “The manager has not decided on the team yet but I believe if I do play alongside Andy Carroll we will generate a lot of danger.
“We haven’t functioned 100 per cent together this season but now is the moment to change the situation.
“Andy got the winner at Blackburn on Tuesday and is happy about that. And that win has boosted our morale for the derby.”
It has been a topsy-turvy season for Suarez, and the Reds, with controversy a constant bedfellow.
Suarez, 25, copped an eight-match ban for racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra, while this week the club’s owners — tired of poor results and a paltry return on their £84million investment in Carroll, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson — parted company with director of football Damien Comolli.
But Suarez has gradually bounced back. He helped Liverpool win the Carling Cup at Wembley and has slammed in three goals in the last five games.
And he cannot wait to get stuck into the Toffees.
He said: “The controversy with Evra and my punishment affected my performances but that was to be expected.
“Also our performances in the Premier League have not always been positive but in the cups it’s been totally different. Now I am good and very focused. People may talk about our goalkeeping situation for Wembley, with our first choices Pepe Reina and Doni suspended.
“But everyone is behind Brad Jones and trying to help him. He was very good at Blackburn and we all have confidence in him.
“To return to Wembley is a good sign because after the Carling Cup final we dreamt of another two matches there — the FA Cup semi and then the final.
“I left Ajax to fight for trophies at a big club like Liverpool. Back in Uruguay and then in Holland I watched many FA Cup finals. They were always special and now I want to taste the same incredible experience.
“From the very first day I arrived on Merseyside I noticed the sensational rivalry with Everton. The fans live for our derby matches.
“Wembley is going to be a very intense occasion.
“There won’t be too many chances and it could be the side that shows the most patience will reach the final.
“A game like this is what every professional wants. If I could, I’d give 150 per cent for Liverpool. We want to lift the trophy — it means we must beat Everton.
“I remember the joy and satisfaction of our success with Uruguay in the World Cup. Now I want to celebrate more cup success with two glorious Wembley wins.”
