Carroll thinks he is hitting form - at last
Andy Carroll reckons he is finally ready to hit the heights at Liverpool — 13 months after arriving.
The giant Geordie had his best game in a Reds shirt in Sunday's 6-1 FA Cup drubbing of Brighton, capped by a superbly-struck goal.
It was a sweet moment for the 6ft 3ins England ace, who has suffered a nightmare time on Merseyside since his £35million switch from Newcastle in January last year.
He arrived with an ankle injury — which wrecked his first six months — while he started the current campaign painfully struggling for form.
Despite that Carroll, 23, has still featured in all but four of Liverpool's games this term. He said: "I feel I have just started to get going. I'm scoring goals and feel like I am doing well now.
"This is the best I've felt since I have been here, without a doubt. I feel fit and confident and I think it is showing in my performances.
"I'm getting around the pitch more and getting involved. I think it shows that I am happier and more confident.
"I'm just pleased that things are going right." A return of six goals this term is hardly the stuff to get too excited about. But with a Carling Cup final date at Wembley on Sunday, suddenly everything in the garden is looking decidedly rosy at just the right time for Carroll.
He admitted: "All the lads are looking forward to it. I've never been to a cup final and I cannot remember anything about when Newcastle went, to be honest." - www.thesun.co.uk
