A WHOPPING RM38.86 million worth of Ecstasy pills and powder were seized when police raided a luxury bungalow in Batu Ferringhi, Penang on Tuesday.
Another surprising find was that the key players who were arrested are not Malaysians but four Indonesians.
The Indonesia-based syndicate had moved its operations to Malaysia so that they need not have to go through the extra burden of smuggling the pills into the country, police said.
A total of 42,282 pills and 322.8kg of Ecstasy powder were recovered. The powder could be used to make 922,300 pills. That amounts to nearly one million pills which could be sold for RM40 each.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob said eight luxury cars worth RM1.2 million were also seized along with RM209,000 in cash, jewellery and laptops.
DCP Ayub said seven men had since been remanded pending investigations into the case which had been classified as trafficking under Section 39B of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“A major Ecstasy pipeline in the country has been cut off with the arrest of the men, who could face the mandatory death sentence if found guilty, and the seizure of the drug.”
