Yes, you've read it right. The iconic Hollywood actor, Robert De Niro is in KL on a private visit

An insider at the Immigration Department in KLIA has told The Daily Chilli  that the Oscar winner flew in via Singapore late Thursday evening.

"Mr De Niro checked in by using a different name," confirmed the source. "He seriously doesn't want to be identified."

He is expected to stay in Malaysia till this weekend.

Another source in the Hollywood film industry tells us that the 66-year-old actor is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor - who had extended her personal invitation to him to visit Malaysia when the two met in New York in April this year.

Earlier, Rosmah told Sabah's Daily Express that De Niro has accepted her personal invite to come and visit Malaysia.

"He came as one of our guests (at a Malaysian function in New York) and saw the other side of Malaysia," said Rosmah, as quoted in Daily Express.

"He said, 'You are very progressive, you are very engaging. I would like to come to your country.' I said, 'Please come because otherwise, you listen to all the wrong things about Malaysia. It is very important to put things in the right perspective.'"

A highly respectable talent in the Hollywood film industry, De Niro has enjoyed an illustrious career that spanned over more than two decades.

A versatile actor, director and producer, he's best remembered in classics like The Godfather: Part II, 1900, Raging Bull and The Good Shepherd.

De Niro clinched the Oscars twice - Best Actor for Raging Bull in 1981 and Best Supporting Actor for The Godfather: Part II in 1975.
