Drugs-in-shoes man stopped in his tracks
A MALAYSIAN who tried to smuggle drugs into Indonesia by concealing them in his shoes has been arrested.
The suspect, who was caught with one kilo of methamphetamine at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Wednesday, said he was forced to carry the drugs to pay for his gambling debts in Thailand.
He was supposed to deliver the drugs at a hotel in Jakarta where the majority of guests are Malaysians, the Jakarta Globe reported.
Customs official Gatot Sugeng Wibowo said the suspect hid half a kilo of the drug in each of his shoes.
Police are still investigating the suspect’s contacts in Indonesia to ascertain whether he is a part of a drug smuggling network.
