Panty-less warning for Valentine's day

By Edward Rajendra

Love birds are in danger of being trapped by the snoop squads of the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS) this Valentine's Day, but girls who go 'commando' (panty-less) may just get away with it.

While female students in institutes of higher learning in Selangor are being encouraged by word of mouth or via the grapevine, electronic or otherwise, about not wearing panties on that day to express their love for their boyfriends, the JAIS officers are all worked up over these deviant acts.

Jais director Datuk Mohamed Khusrin Munawi said he was disgusted by the promotion of such immoral activities.

"Muslims must understand that Valentine’s Day is not for them. We will not allow Muslim students to be taken in by such celebrations that deviate from the teachings of Islam.

"At this moment, we are unable to determine the source of the ‘no-panties movement’, but those encouraging such a culture are irresponsible," he added.

However, two students in their 20s from Shah Alam, who gave their names as Ummi and Melissa, said they were aware of the “no-panties movement”.

"I feel it is a personal matter,” said Ummi with a smile.

"Valentine’s Day is a good time to express one’s love."

"And, what we use or don’t use is our right, our freedom. But we will do what is right. It’s a new world now."

Khusrin said Jais officials would be checking budget hotels, malls and parks throughout Selangor on Feb 14 to ensure that Muslims behave themselves.

"If we find unmarried couples together, they could be charged with committing khalwat (close proximity)," he said after a meeting at the state secretariat building in Shah Alam.

He said lamps in public parks will be turned on to deter couples from using such areas for amorous interludes.

"We also advise parents to ensure that their children are at home."

"We will also  check restaurants that offer candle-light dinners, as these often lead to possible sexual activities in budget hotels."

It is not known how a girl who is not wearing panties could be singled out.

  • i am a guy
stupid remark, shows the shallow mindedness of some jais officers.
its for everyone to celebrate. but the panties issue is so dumb. to the person who started it, dun be too proud cos its so stupid. why dun u ask them to go without a bottom, then it would be more obvius to their boy friens rather than not wearin an underpant.. dumb, dumb, dumb
  • i am a guy too
it is not a stupid remark. muslims are not allowed to celebrate valentine's day as it is not part of the religion. to celebrate something which is not part of the religion is forbidden as it affects your 'religious souls'. you should refrain yourself from commenting something abt Islam if u do not understand the teaching. Kindly mind your own religion, if you have any.

Does it mean that girls working as secretaries, Air-hostess, waitress, GRO's are going without underwears for the males?

"And, what we use or don’t use is our right, our freedom. But we will do what is right. It’s a new world now."

Muslim women have no rights. Don;t believe me? See the women of other islamic countries. Their women can;t even talk with men.
  • i am a guy too
you are confused between Islam and arabic culture. that's what i can see from your comment. learn to understand Islam and arabic culture, then u will see the difference. unfortunately, many non-muslims are confused lot like u.

To show your love you don't wear panties!. Is this what love is all about? why not don't wear anything?

To all girls out there, PLEASE don't do it or you will be one of the idiots...

  • Casanova
If you are a Muslim, just stay at home, because Valentine's day is HARAM. That will give other girls who wants to go panty-less trouble free evening. But why bother if they wear or don't, it is their choice. Can't accept this silly act, stay at home. What? Going panty-less to show your love.....OMG, this is funny and silly.

What's Jakim going to do? Start asking Muslim gals to drop their "pants" to check? Jakim needs to be reminded that they are not appointed by God, Allah, Tuhan, or any other higher authority. For these ladies to wear or not to wear, it is their Personal perogative and their consense.
  • i am a guy too
agree, and rest assured that jais will not ask muslim gals to drop their pants.

"We will also check restaurants that offer candle-light dinners, as these often lead to possible sexual activities in budget hotels."

  • Anon ni mouse
HAHAHAHAHA!! Oooohhh... this comment made my day!

But i think they're already doing it now, with the no condom thingy.

"Come on honey. If you love me, you would want me to feel the best right?! We must be together as close as possible..."
  • Jenny
These jokers should not waste time 'curbing' stuff like that.. its our right if we wanna go commando or not was has these religious buggers got to do with the piece of cloth we have under out pants / skirt? i bet u they will take advantage to 'check' up on us giving us some lame reasons in the process
  • Raine
Going panty-less is hilarious and a girl must be dumb to think that it's an expression of love. "lurve" is more like it. Anyway the WHOLE of Valentine's Day is a marketing ploy as we all know.
  • Andy
Please.........all Malaysians wake up. Please differentiate between religion and social life. What is the role of JAIS ? Checking underwear ? If anybody choses not to wear a bra/brief/panties, what is the problem ?
Malaysians have been an object of laughter nowadays. Politicians are making a mockery out of the nation.
  • Ahmad Tajuddin Bin Shamsuddin
To all muslim out there, don't celebrate valentine's day cause its against our religious and cultures. Don't forget Allah.
  • Dumba$$
It must be tough being a muslim. No wonder there are so many suicide bombers who are muslims. I don't blame muslims for killing themselves cuz seriously, i would too if i was one. There's no freedom, u can't do this, u can't do that..! sigh, WTF man!!??
  • anonymous
I think the last speculation by the writer is quite pertinent. How are they going to check? Might be a good time now to sign up to be a JAIS officer eh?
  • Captain J
Yeah right!!!what's next?bra-less on halloween?let's-go-naked on national day?what a stupid thing to do...
  • anonymous
Ladies beware. You might have to lift up your skirt or drop your pants for checking whether you are in a restaurant, a park on the road side or cozy in a parked car.
  • -x-
And I thought "pendedahan aurat" is not to expose your flesh from neck to ankle level? Head and hands as well for female Muslims. Why bother and make a fuss whether or not I go comando? For GOD's sake, panties are worn inside. How not wearing panties is going to "mendedahkan aurat"?

And personally I think panty-less "promotion" is kind of cool.
  • ...
How shallow minded our Malaysian officials are i.e. Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS)!! seriously, i really think we should start by educating the Muslims first. Such a waste of resources to check for places where Muslim would go for sex! probably in the near future, they will check your hse too with a warrant :p
  • Anonymous
yea, agreed with X..it's such a cool idea.Panty-less for now, next will be "panty wear outside"
  • 3d
i certainly think thats a good idea for the panty-less... but its true that muslim cant take part..
  • mimie
it looks like i have to lift up my skirt or whatever it is so that the authorities can make sure girls wearing panties..awesome
  • LUHG!
This is just about the dumbest idea I've ever heard. Totally absurd.
  • GEEzer aka teluklitik.
I think, I'm gonna lock up my bitch-dog for planning to go panty-less on Valentine's Day, in order to show her love for all her randy neighbourhood Romeos.

    She's a f*cking bitch !

    .
    .
    Joking.
  • -X-
Which law does it says that Muslim's cannot go commando? This is actually against the law? What happened to those Muslims back then when under garment is not yet created? And I am sure Islam has existed way before the under garments. No disrespect to the religion, but I believe it is always the people who have extreme thinking and thoughts, mess it all up...

And I second ...'s thought. In the near future...they will come knocking on your door in the middle of the night shouting, "Show us your wife!!!"
  • Zul
"We will also check restaurants that offer candle-light dinners, as these often lead to possible sexual activities in budget hotels." -

wow, the guy managed to single-handedly insult every young, old, man AND woman who has ever gone for a nice candle-light dinner. bravo.
  • Julia
    1. Wearing undergarments or not has got nothing to do with my religion.

    2. Celebrating Valentine's Day is just like celebrating Recycling Day or Aid's Day, which is not wrong for it has got nothing to do with my religion.

    3. For the JAIS' info, Malaysian Muslim Women are not the same as them (JAIS = moron). We understand our religion, have a strong faith, know what we are doing and do not go against our religion.

    4. I sometimes go commando because its my choice and it has got nothing to do with my religion as long as I tutup aurat.

    5. JAIS, please do some justice for the people and do something more fruitful?
  • i am a guy too
    ms julia,
    1. i agree, and i don't expect jais to request for all ladies to raise their skirts. the statement was made so that muslim ladies will not do such a stupid act.

    2. celebrating Valentine's Day is NOT similar to that of Recycling Day or Aids' Day. how can you compare celebration of noble cause to that of celebration of lust? you have to look into history to understand Valentine's Day before putting such comparison.

    3. JAIS is not moron. Moron can be referred to someone who comments about something that he/she does not know. If Valentine's Day is not against your religion, then it is up to you.

    4. yes, i agree. that is your choice and no one from jais will ask you to raise your skirt.

    5. jais is established for muslim, and thus it works in line with muslim teachings. if u are non-muslim, u don't have to worrry.
  • shamin
Ms. Julia - agreed with every single thing you said.

I am a guy too - uh, when did Valentine's day became a celebration of lust? GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT.

It's the same thing that you said to all those who commented on Islamic rules and regulations without knowing thoroughly about it - you have done the same. If you do not know how to differentiate between love and lust - please do not use such a strong word.

As for JAIS is moronic or not - they shouldn't waste their times on something they cannot control - like whether people chose to wear underwear or decides to eat in a candlelit restaurant.

  • dick
    errmm... im a guy too,
if jais is established for muslims, i wonder why arent they in Asia Cafe subang jaya catching those muslims who are drinking alcohol?
mmm...pls laa. jais is just some bullshit organisation to eat our tax-money.
seriously, every weekend in asia cafe, i see more malays drinking beer and liquor more than the chinese or indians.

It must be tough being a muslim. No wonder there are so many suicide bombers who are muslims. I don't blame muslims for killing themselves cuz seriously, i would too if i was one.

With so much restrictions, rules and laws but yet, Muslims still kill one another, can marry 4 wives, marry underage girls, have no equal rights for women and outright commit sins and put in the name of religion. There's no freedom, u can't do this, u can't do that..! sigh, WTF man!!??
  • Dumba$$ is truly a DUMBASS
You are so insensitive. Please do not try to spark racial tensions here. You're embarrassing all the Non-Muslims like me. It's people like you who gives Malaysia a bad name. Please, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything. Keep your third world mentality thoughts to yourself.
  • Proud Hindu
Agreed. I'm sick and tired of bigots who twist, turn and spin a statement purposely to goad other people.

Go back to where ever you came from and stay there as you definitely are not equipped to handle a multi-cultural country like my proud Malaysia.

I have so many friends from so many different races, even an Iraqi who took refuge here during the 1st gulf war and stayed put after wards! He loves it here!
  • Dumba$$ is truly a DUMBASS
    Dear Proud Hindu,
Like you, I have many friends from diverse religious backgrounds. I don't see why people like Dumba$$ thinks that people of different religions can't get along. I am glad and sure that there are many Malaysians out there who can see beyond skin colour like you and I. Hopefully, people like Dumba$$ will realise that it takes very little for us to get along.

Btw Dumba$$, my BEST friends happen to be a Muslim, Christian, Hindu, while I am a Buddhist. See, no racial tension. In fact, we are proud of each other. You know why? 'Cause we don't tolerate each other's existance, we ACCEPT and RESPECT it? Ever hear of it?
P/S: I think the name Dumba$$ is aptly applied to you. You should stick to it.

    Proud Hindu,
Thank you for your fair comment. Unfortunately many people did not understand various religious beliefs in this country and continue to say something which they do not even know head and tail, thus creating tension.

I also have many non-muslim friends and I will certainly not ridicule their beliefs or teachings.

to understand Valentine's Day, u need to look into the history and the purpose of such celebration. if the history and purpose are againts Islam, then it is forbidden. As simple as that.

Those Merdeka, Labour and other celebrations that you quoted, those are for noble causes which are NOT against Islam. So, no harm celebrating from Islam standpoint of view.

    Got it, dude?

Dude, i seriously don't understand whether you're making fun of Muslim or you're agreeing to the notion that celebrating something which is not part of the religion will make us lose our souls?

Lets stop celebrating Merdeka, Labour Day, Agung's B'day, Teacher's day, Childrens world day and etc... It's not what you celebrate but what you take from it that matters, natch.
  • i am a guy too
rest assured that jais will not ask u or any other muslim gals to raise up the skirts or things like that. if u want to go commando, up to you. jais only wants to highlight that this kind of act may lead to other immoral activities. don't worry, i guess u are non-muslim, so read the context of the news and do not simply call people as jokers.

Myself an Expat living since seven years in Malaysia and love this country so much that would love to be here when I take the last breath of my life. Reason: all Malaysians are so very good, friendly and like one big family. Yes I honestly never missed my family or friends even for a minute since the day one I landed in Malaysia.

Since quite some time, Malaysia is in news for wrong reasons and this is giving different opinion to my Family and friends abroad. Like about this countries state of religious tolerance, general public safety etc etc... I keep reassuring them that it's not true at all and maybe is being created by few self minded people. latter when they achieve their targets, they themselves may come forward and solve the issues. Resulting in they become public HERO. I hope you can understand what I mean....

I humbly request all to please stop discussing about these religious things as it only leads to unending controversy.

  • can't help it
Wanted to add something too... my firnges are just itchy to write some things..JAIS are common people with no income but to depend on government for money..also they don't get lucky with girls because of low income and ugly face..so only way to see this girls in action is by ambushing them and threatening them... Commonla if a girl wears or dont wear her underwear only her bf will know...what a F;ed country...by the way comments against religions are so easily said...Please stop this and stay united because goverment is F;ing our ass and we dont know about it..
  • Sophie
I don't really want to do this but I don't want to disappoint him. I will keep my panties on during the day and I will take them off for our evening in privacy

You guys talk like women have been wearing panties since the beginning of time. Most panties are nylon. And plastics were only invented less than 40 years ago. What were they wearing before that? My grandma never wear panties as far as I know!
  • MrWhite
Actually, the nylon was invented 75 years ago. But it is true that about 5 or 6 generations ago men and women were bare under their clothes.
