A third of UK men borrow cars to impress their dates

Is that your car or are you just desperate to see me?

Is that your car or are you just desperate to see me?

Some men are prepared to go to great lengths to woo a woman on a first date, even if it means bending the truth about what they drive.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, women going for a romantic night out with a new flame might want to consider asking to see receipts and proof of ownership if their date is immaculately dressed and drives a sports car.

One in three (31%) UK men admit to pretending that rented or borrowed items are their own in order to improve their chances on a first date.

Though some respondents in the survey, commissioned by Hertz, admit to going as far as passing off an apartment or even a pet as their own, [strong]clothes and cars top the list of the most frequently rented or borrowed items used to impress women, with one in six men admitting to taking temporary ownership’ of both.

Unfortunately, though such practices are dishonest,’ it would also appear that they might be effective as 60 percent of women surveyed admitted they would be impressed by a man in expensive clothes while a remarkable 40% agreed that the car a person drives can make them more attractive.

Therefore, it comes as little surprise that when the survey of 1000 UK adults asked which car respondents would most like to be driven in this Valentine’s Day, a Lamborghini was the top answer, followed by Jaguar and Bentley.
