Jilted wife goes nuts, naked and kills

A psychology lecturer is claiming temporary insanity after she found out her husband was cheating on her and his mistress was pregnant, leading her to ram her car into a mother and her daughter, seriously injuring the woman and killing the girl, and then stripping naked to lie in front of an ambulance to stop them from getting to the victims, all the while screaming "I want to kill you".
The incident happened at Linyi City in China's Shandong province, where the woman in question, Zhang Yan, was speeding in her car on a residential road. "She was driving so fast, she nearly knocked over a parked car," said one resident who witnessed it all.
He said that Zhang rammed into the mother and daughter, then hit another five vehicles, before running into a cement platform and finally grinding to a stop. Both victims were flung hundreds of metres by the impact. In a video clip taken after the incident, the mother was seen lying motionless on the ground as passersby rushed to rescue the girl trapped under another car.
As the ambulance arrived, Zhang ran around screaming randomly, "I want to kill you!" She then ripped off her clothes and laid in front of the ambulance to stop them getting closer to the victims. And when the medics tried to get the victims into the ambulance, Zhang was seen attacking them, elbowing a nurse and throwing the girl to the ground.

Then as the ambulance tried to leave the scene, Zhang clung to the side of the vehicle to stop it from moving. Strangely, while the video captured more than 20 people trying to save the mother and daughter, no one seemed to go near Zhang.
Sadly, the girl died at the hospital while her mother lies in critical condition. "We're not certain if she’ll survive. She's been in a coma for days," said her doctor. As for the girl, one witness claimed “she was still breathing and her limbs were moving, and she might have survived if that woman hadn't been in the way."
Zhang's neighbours said she was furious after a quarrel with her husband over his mistress. He had long wanted a divorce, but his parents were against it. Then the other shoe dropped: His lover was pregnant and Zhang flipped her lid.
One neighbour said he tried to calm her, but backed off when she began screaming murderous threats. In her rage, she couldn't even locate her car and hijacked one that was unattended. Reports say that Zhang's mother was somehow in the car with her at the time and was also hurt in the incident.

Zhang was arrested the next day and her family has requested a mental illness test. However, a lawyer has said that claiming insanity could result in a more severe judgement. "She may face the death penalty if she's diagnosed to be mentally sound," he said.
Meanwhile, Linyi police have released a statement saying her case had been dented when they found out she had lectured in medical psychology and psychiatry at Shandong Medical College, and therefore could be faking her temporary insanity claim.
