Some 300 women from various parts of the Sichuan province will do all they can to win the hearts of millionaires in a 'matchmaking competition' in Chengdu, China.
According to reports, the millionaires are members of China's Single Entrepreneur Club, which organised the event. "They are single or divorced businessmen with more than 100mil yuan (RM50.2mil) in assets. Some of them are presidents or general managers of large companies," according to the club.
To maintain their memberships, the men must pay an annual fee of 200,000 yuan (RM100,388).
The matchmaking event, which will be held in 10 cities, began in Guangzhou on May 20, attracting 2,800 applicants. The women will not meet the millionaires until the final round, when the about 30 "potential brides" will go on dates with the men.
Li Zhuo, an official of the club, said the millionaires are in their 30s and 40s. "The requirements for the candidates are that they must be college graduates between the ages of 20 to 35 years and 1.6m to 1.75m tall.
"They will face a panel of judges who will assess them according to their appearances, psychology, ability to manage money and their views on marriage."
Meanwhile, the sichuan.scol.com.cn website conducted a survey and found that 54% of the respondents said such events were an insult to women.
Many netizens made fun of the candidates, calling them material girls. But as Madonna sang theree decades ago, aren't we living in a material world?
