A 67-year-old woman was hit by a van after she saved a three-year-old boy, whom she didn't even know. She did not survive.

The accident happened when Peng Xiuying pulled the boy, Liu Hanshuo out of harm's way when she saw a van speeding towards him.

However, she was hit by the van, the Dahe Daily reported.

The boy's head was hit by the vehicle's wheel as the driver backed the van after realising he hit someone, a witness said.

The boy will recover soon, said a local doctor in Huaiyang - a township in Zhoukou city in Central China's Henan province.

"The boy would be okay if the driver hadn’t backed the car," the witness added.

Peng's daughter said that while she was grieving she was also glad her mother was able to help the boy.

"I am so proud of my mother," she said. - China Daily
