Octomum investigated for living in squalor
A mum who gave birth to octuplets is being investigated over claims she and her kids are living in squalor.
Nadya Suleman, 36, was dubbed Octomum when she had six boys and two girls in 2009.
But social workers paid a visit after being told the children — as well as six older siblings — were unclean and malnourished.
Photos of their home in La Habra, California, emerged showing rooms in a mess with graffiti on walls.
Her hairdresser, who tipped off authorities, said: "The kids are in desperate need of help."
The stylist added the boys are wearing girl’s clothes and said Suleman is not capable of caring for them.
A team from California social services inspected her home after being told there was only one working toilet.
La Habra Police's Sgt Daniel Barnes said officers did not find anything unusual when they visited on Tuesday.
Officials then ruled the 14 children, aged three to nine, were not in danger. But they will be monitored.
Suleman has admitted being broke and struggling to cope since her multiple birth.
She recently signed on to get £1,500 a month in food stamps and has faced having her home re-possessed for falling behind on her mortgage. - www.thesun.co.uk
