6yr-old swims across Yangtze River

A six-year-old girl swam 1,500m across the Yangtze River in China.

Tan Jiajia, a first grader of the Liaoning Primary School, spent only 27min and 24-second to cross the Chongqing stretch of China's longest river.

"She loves water. Even when she was a baby, she must take her bath three times a day, otherwise, she would cry," said Jiajia's uncle Yan Xiaogang.

The girl was living with the uncle for a while since she was one, as her parents were working in outstations.

Seeing the girl loves water so much, Yan started to teach her to swim and in 2009, Jiajia - together with her uncle and father Tan Farong - joined Fengjie Winter Swimming Society and she became the youngest member of the club.

Accompanied by several adults from the society, Jiajia easily swam across and reached the other side of the riverbank.

Her mother, onboard a boat, was cheering for the girl all the way.

"I'm very happy," said Jiajia.

Her parent were also overjoyed, saying they were targeting the Olympic swimming events.
