Ian Wright teams up with Joanne Kam

By Noorsila Abd Majid

What happens when Malaysian queen of burlesque Joanne Kam Po Po meets wacky travel show host Ian Wright? It's crazy, sexy fun.

Truly, the oddball duo brought the house down at The Ship on Jalan Bukit Bintang, one of the secret locations for the taping of his new show, Invite Mr Wright, for Discovery Asia/Roast Beef Production.

The Daily Chilli managed to sniff out their "dangerous liaison" after getting a tip-off from sources in the industry.

So imagine our delight when we saw a cute poster of Ian and Joanne plastered outside the entrance to The Ship, which literally stopped traffic in the area.

It turned out that the witty TV host, known for his lively banter and amusing interactions with the locals on Globe Trekker, had slipped into Malaysia quietly for a week - travelling as far as Bidor in Perak and Kota Baru in Kelantan with Joanne.

"We judged a bird competition in Kota Baru," Joanne revealed. "We also played wayang kulit (the Malay shadow play)."

He had secretly invited her to guest on the series that sees him travelling around the globe to live with famous people and explore their lives as well as their countries.

"We've been stuck at the hips for eight days," joked Ian. "I even tried to walk her dog."

For the globe-trotting Englishman, nothing scares him off until he has to do stand-up comedy with Joanne. "It's the hardest thing to do. It's my first-time doing it. I admire Joanne and her team."

"He's so nervous," teased Joanne. "I've got to coach him."

Yes, especially on adult comedy, Joanne Kam-style.

Also on hand to spice things up for them were BIBI K POH and The Sexy Divas. OK. They are Dragshow queens who perform regularly at The Ship.

"It jells so well," he beamed proudly.

Singing his praises for Malaysia and Malaysians, Ian added,"I love Malaysia. The food is fantastic. The people in this country are chilled out and relaxed. But they have a lot of energy. A different kind of energy. And a good sense of humour."

The Ian Wright-Joanne Kam special episode will be aired on TLC, Astro Channel 712 at the end of December.
