Sandy vs Alan and Hacken

By CHEW WAN YING

MALAYSIAN concert goers are going to be spoilt for choice next month, when three big music stars of Hong Kong hold their gigs simultaneously.

Once again, Alan Tam will team up with Hacken Lee for a show on Nov 28 at the National outdoor stadium Bukit Jalil while Sandy Lam will hold her first concert on the same night at the Putra Indoor Stadium.

Lam, who was in town recently, remained unfazed by the competition.

"Every concert is unique. Our styles are different. We just hope that audiences at both concerts will have a great time watching the shows."

Sounds like a PR answer? Those who went to her last concert in Malaysia in Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands, three years ago might want to differ.

That explains why tickets are selling fast for her upcoming show - Sandy Lam 09 Live in KL.

Jointly organised by Martensia and UCSI Communications, the concert is part of a world tour which began last year and spanned across Macau, Guangzhou, Kunming, Canada, Melbourne and Perth.

Kuala Lumpur is the last stop and it's best to trust Lam when she says it's going to be special.

"Malaysia holds a special place in my heart, as I have recorded some Malaysian compositions in the past. So expect to hear songs that are not sung in the previous concerts in other countries."

"I addition, we have special arrangement for every city. Prior to holding a concert in each city, we do research to find out the preferences of the audiences.

"Every tour is an expansion of an idea in my head, with new ideas thrown in after each show," she explained.
Three years after her last album Breathe Me, the 43-year-old revealed that she is currently penning songs for a new album.

"The progress has been slow but I am writing whenever I’m free."

While details on the new disc remain sketchy, Lam revealed that it would contain one or two Cantonese songs.

After the KL concert, I will focus on working on the album. Before that, I will take a break to reenergise and come up with new ideas for the album.
