Mulan in 3D, starring Zhang Ziyi
If nothing goes wrong, we shall not wait long to see the story of Mulan being recreated on the silver screen again.
Forget about the 1998 Disney animation or Zhao Wei-starring Mulan last year. Here we are talking about a new film starring Zhang Ziyi as the legendary female warrior.

It was reported that Zhang Ziyi will produce and star in a new film about Mulan.
The project, originally slated to commence last year, was delayed due to financial problems.
However, following the collaboration between Disney and a Chinese production company, the project was put into motion again, reported Mtime.com and CRI Online.
In addition to playing the title role, Zhang, 31, is set to produce the film, which will be shot in 3D.
This would not be her first attempt at producing. Last year, the actress added the title of producer to her CV, when she produced romantic comedy Sophie’s Revenge.
Meanwhile, Taiwanese pop star Wang Leehom reportedly beat Daniel Wu and Korean actor Jang Dong-gun to land the role of leading man.
Shooting will commence in China in Oct and US$100 million (RM319 million) will be pumped in to fund the making of the film.
The story of Mulan, about a girl who disguises herself as a boy to replace her ageing father’s position in the army, has always been a favourite subject for moviemakers.
Back in the late 1990s, Disney’s animation Mulan became a hit, raking in US$120 million (RM380million) at the box office.
Last year, actress Zhao Wei won rave reviews with her performance as the courageous protagonist in Jingle Ma-directed Mulan.
At one point, Johnny To, the Hong Kong filmmaker who brought us critically acclaimed flicks like PTU and Election, was attached to the project.
However, the latest word was that Chuck Russell, who directed The Mask and The Scorpion King, has been brought in.
Wang’s management said that they have yet to be approached for the role, but the singer, who recently tried a hand at directing with Love in Disguise, expressed great interest in collaborating with a talented actress like Zhang.
