Yuna going to LA in March
EARLIER on, there was talk of local artiste Yuna, who was first runner up in the 24th Anugerah Juara Lagu, planning to test the American market.
Now the details are finally available. The Dan Sebenarnya singer told Gua.com.my that she would fly to Los Angeles next month and perform at several acoustic shows.
It all started when her YouTube videos caught the attention of an American label, Indie-Pop, which then approached the artiste on the possibility of marketing her music in America.
The acoustic shows are the first step. If everything goes well, it is very likely thatYuna will spread her wings there.
To start out in a foreign land is no doubt, nerve-wracking, but Yuna decided to heed her mother’s advice and take the leap into the unknown.
“I don’t know what to expect there. I am nervous and apprehensive, but my instinct tells me that everything will be fine.
“My mother told me to give it a try or I would never know what would happen. I’m not someone who likes to take risks, but the time has come for me to do so. Every musician or singer dreams of a chance to attain greater things and now the chance has presented itself to me.”
Describing this as an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, she is thankful to have a platform to introduce Malaysian music to Americans.
“I see this opportunity as a chance to open their eyes to what our country has to offer, and let them know that Malaysia has an abundance of talented singers.”
She also does not think that her image - a Muslim woman wearing a tudung - would be an obstacle in launching her career in America.
“When Indie-Pop approached me, they already knew that I’m unlike other singers. They know that I will never change (my image). Their focus is on my music. That’s why I am happy to work with them. They are confident of my abilities and understanding towards my religion at the same time,” she concluded.
