Rihanna up for 6 MTV Europe awards, Bieber in for 5
Rihanna leads the nominations for the MTV Europe Music Awards with six, ahead of Taylor Swift on five, and Justin Bieber and Katy Perry on four each.
Rihanna had been shortlisted for best song, best female artiste, best pop video, best video, artiste with the biggest fans and best look. She's up against Taylor in the female, pop and look categories, while Taylor is also nominated for best live act and best world stage act.
Lady Gaga dominated last year's awards held in Belfast, coming away with four gongs and performing Marry The Night on the show. This year she's nominated for three awards—best live act, best video and biggest fans. Lana Del Rey, Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z and Kanye West also earned three nominations each.
The MTV EMA, which are voted for by online fans, is one of the biggest pop events outside the US and, despite being based in Europe, is generally dominated by US acts. This year the awards will be held in Frankfurt's Festhalle on 11th November.

Best Female: Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, P!nk, Rihanna, Taylor Swift.
Best Male: Flo Rida, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Pitbull.
Best New Artiste: Carly Rae Jepsen, fun., Lana Del Rey, One Direction, Rita Ora.
Best Pop: Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, No Doubt, Rihanna, Taylor Swift.
Best Hip Hop: Drake, Jay-Z & Kanye West, Nas, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross.
Best Rock: Coldplay, Green Day, The Killers, Linkin Park, Muse.
Best Alternative: Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, Florence + The Machine, Jack White, Lana Del Rey.
Best Electronic: Avicii; Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia.
Best Live: Green Day, Jay-Z & Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Muse, Taylor Swift.
Best Video: Bad Girls —MIA, Gangnam Style—PSY, Marry The Night —Lady Gaga, We Found Love—Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris, Wide Awake—Katy Perry.
