Charmaine to make cameo in War and Beauty sequel?
Despite having left TVB, Charmaine Sheh remains the station's hope when it comes to boosting the TV ratings.
The Hong Kong actress, who has shifted her acting career to China, has reportedly come to the rescue of Jonathan Chik, her mentor and a TVB producer that has churned out hits like At the Threshold of An Era.
Despite his stellar record, Chik's recent works, such as When Heaven Burns, Let It Be Love and Master of Play, have failed to draw the Hong Kong viewers. This has much to do with how the producer, along with his favourite scriptwriter Chow Yuk-ming, opt to deal with unconventional subject matters in their works in recent years - a move that fail to strike a chord with Hong Kong TV viewers, which mostly consist of housewives.
What's more, for Master of Play, a psychological thriller starring Adam Cheng and Moses Chan, TVB has received around 100 complains for violent content.

To add insult to injury, Chik's new work Beauty at War - the much-anticipated sequel to War and Beauty - received lukewarm response at the recent Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART), sparking concern that the producer might have lost his Midas touch.
With its predecessor being a hit with critics and viewers alike, all eyes are on Beauty at War. However, Sheh, Gigi Lai and Bowie Lam, who all gave excellent performances in War and Beauty, are not starring in this sequel.
Out of the original main cast, only Sheren Tang and Moses Chan remain, with the addition of Ada Choi. Instead of focusing on the power play between the royal concubines - a formula that worked for the first one - Chik and Chow choose to focus on the romantic relationships between the characters this time.
Hence, TVB has turned to Sheh again, hoping that she can make a cameo appearance in the drama to retain its original appeal and entice buyers in overseas market.
The shooting of Beauty at War is now underway in Hengdian World Studios, China. Coincidentally, Sheh, 37, is also there filming a China-produced drama series. Sources revealed that the actress has agreed to take a few days off her schedule to film a part in Beauty at War, but TVB still needs to fine-tune the deal with her management.
