MTV Movie Awards snubs Twilight

Boo hoo. At this moment, the Twi-hards must be weeping hard over the lack of love for their favourite vampire couple.

The newly unveiled nomination list of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards show that The Hunger Games is the new Twilight, as it overshadows the latter with eight nominations.

While The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 is nominated for Movie of the Year, all stars - including leading stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart - are snubbed in the individual performance categories.

Well, at least, fans can comfort themselves with the fact that they are not deprived the chance of voting repeatedly for Pattinson and Stewart - for Best Kiss - an award that the duo has won three times in a row.

Those are the only nominations for Breaking Dawn - Part 1. It probably has something to do with a new system this year, which sees the nominees being selected by professionals - such as actors, producers, agents - as well as industry tastemakers, before fans get to select the final winners.

Six new categories are also added, including Best On-Screen Dirtbag and Best Gut-Wrenching Performance.

The Hunger Games and Bridesmaids are clearly the favourites this year, each leading the pack with eight nominations, including Movie of the Year. Other movies that are up for the award are Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and The Help.

The Hunger Games' Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, as well as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2' Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson each earns a nod in the Best Male and Female Performance categories.

Meanwhile, Radcliffe and Hutcherson will be pitted against Ryan Gosling (Drive), Channing Tatum (The Vow) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (50/50) in the Best Male Performance category.
