Michelle Chen to part ways with Angie Chai
You Are the Apple of My Eye star Michelle Che is ready to spread her wings and bid adieu to her mentor Angie Chai.
Back in 2006, the Taiwanese darling was discovered by Chai, the Taiwanese producer who's responsible for producing stars like F4 and a string of bestselling idol dramas. This led to a five-year working relationship between the pair.
Last year, Chen's role as a lovestruck teenager in You Are the Apple of My Eye - one of the biggest box office successes from Taiwan in recent years - propelled her to superstardom, with film offers pouring in for her from all sides. The 28-year-old is set to star opposite Hong Kong action megastar Donnie Yen in a new movie.
After striking gold with the high school romance flick, it is reported that Chen is not renewing her contract with Chai.
Before you start labeling the actress as ungrateful, Chen explains that she is eager to "see what's out there", comparing her relationship with Chai, 49, as the one between a parent and a child.
"When a child leaves his or her parents, that does not mean that he or she doesn't love them," she explained, adding that she will forever be grateful to Chai for being the first person to spot her talent.
Meanwhile, it's apparent that Chai still wishes to keep the hot rising star, as she likens the situation to a divorce, saying that she's "the party who is reluctant to part ways" and hoping that Chen would reconsider her decision.
