First it was M.I.A, now it is Adele who gives the middle finger at a major event.

The British darling, known for her powerhouse vocal, flips the bird at the 2012 Brit Awards in London on Tuesday night. What prompted her to make the obscene gesture at a prestigious affair like this? After all, the 23-year-old has had a great night, nabbing two awards: Best British Female Solo Artist and Album of the Year for 21.

Well, she was in the middle of her acceptance speech when host James Cordon interrupted her to introduce 1990s British pop band Blur instead.

Warning, music fans: Adele just went M.I.A.
An angry Adele gave the middle finger at the Brit Awards for music Tuesday night in London, two weeks after rapper M.I.A. gave the same obscene gesture at the Super Bowl halftime show.
It happened as Adele, 23, was picking up the best album award to go with her solo female honor and was giving her acceptance speech.
"I am so proud to be British and to be flying the flag," she was saying when host James Cordon interrupted her to introduce 90s British pop band Blur.
The crowd booed and Adele digitally expressed herself. The multiple-Grammy winner explained that she wasn't directing her scorn at the audience.
"I flung the middle finger. That was for the suits at the Brit Awards, not my fans," she said, according to the BBC. "I'm sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me."
The moment put a damper on an otherwise shining night for Adele, who kissed and cuddled with boyfriend Simon Konecki throughout the ceremony.
She also showed no signs of her recent voice problems as she brought the crowd to its feet with "Rolling in the Deep."
Yup, you read that right.
She had a monumental night at the Grammys, and now Adele has continued her winning streak by being named Best British Female Solo Artist and taking home Album of the Year for 21 at the 2012 Brit Awards.
But don't you dare cut her speech short, or you'll get the bird.
Seriously.

"It's been an amazing year," Adele's speech started as she received the female artist statuette from Kylie Minogue and joked,  "I feel like a drag queen next to you."
Adele, donning a sleek black Burberry gown also thanked her record company "for letting me be the kind of artist I want to be."
Then host James Corden cut off her acceptance speech, and Adele's middle finger shot up out of frustration. What a rebel!
In an effort to clear the air (kinda), the "Rolling in the Deep" singer clarified that her gesture was aimed toward industry leaders, not her fans.
"I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but it was the suits that offended me," she said. "Thank you all very much and thanks to my fans. I don't want them to think I was swearing at them."
Oh don't be sorry, girl. You're not the first (and we like a woman with some sass), but we do wonder what Karl Lagerfeld would say about this.

A frustrated Adele did the aforementioned act. It turned out that the crowd shared her feelings, too, as they also booed when her speech was cut off.

Later, Adele explained about her act: "That was for the suits at the Brit Awards, not my fans. "I'm sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me.

"Thank you all very much and thanks to my fans. I don't want them to think I was swearing at them."
