Karen Mok to act in Keanu Reeves' movie

Top Hong Kong singer/actress Karen Mok is slated to appear in Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves' directorial debut, Man of Tai Chi, but this seems to be a risky choice in the eyes of some local film critics.

The recently-wed Karen will play a police officer in the upcoming action movie, which also stars Keanu Reeves himself as the antagonist, and first-time actor Tiger Chen as the protagonist.

Tiger is a stunt choreographer by profession, and coached Reeves on the set of The Matrix Trilogy.

The Straits Times' media correspondent Boon Chan said Karen could be 'taking a gamble' working with a rookie director and first-time actor in her first leading role in a Hollywood production.

The 41-year-old star of God of Cookery, Tempting Hearts and East Meets West 2011 scored her first English role in Jackie Chan's adventure film 80 Days Around the World in 2004.

But Boon Chan added that given her linguistic talent, Karen is still likely to have an edge over other Asian stars who are not proficient in English.
