Adam Levine: Shame on Randy Jackson

Which is a better singing competition show? The Voice or American Idol? The latter’s judge Randy Jackson reckons the former is a show for "second chance people" rather than about true musical discoveries.

"The winner (Javier Colon) of The Voice, I will remind you, was an artiste who had a deal at Capitol Records for several years, a failed contract," the record producer noted last month.

And The Voice coach Adam Levine respons by calling it an “irresponsible” statement for Jackson to make.

"Shame on Randy Jackson for saying that because he, of all people, should know that if you're in this business you need second, third, fourth and fifth chances. So we love embracing that and having that be a part of the show.

"God bless Randy. He was a working musician for a long time and had a lot of success and then the show, Idol, kind of blew him out of the water and he's a household name now (but) it was an irresponsible thing to say that,” Levine says on The Ellen DeGeneres show.

The Maroon 5 frontman appeared on the talk show with fellow mentors Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton.

The Voice returns for its second season on Feb 6.
