Babes from the past XXXI




In conjunction with The Star's 40th Anniversary, The Daily Chilli is running a series of "Page 3 girls" that were published in the newspaper from 1971 to 1975.

The Star, in its early days, was well-known for its Page 3 girls and girls in other pages as well.

Reporters on the "beach beat" scanned the Penang seaside for pretty tourists, many of whom sunbathed topless on the island.

However, in 1975, guidelines were drawn up by the government to stop the use of such photographs.

The Daily Chilli, a news portal of the tabloid, will feature many of these girls for 40 days, from Sept 9 to Oct 18.

The babes in the newspaper cutting above are participants in the “Star of Penang” contest, organised by The Star and Max Factor in March, 1972.
