Zizie: 'I did not marry Bung for money.'

Since news leaked that award-winning actress Zizie Ezette had married politician Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin, a media frenzy was set off and many have speculated about the reasons behind the marriage.

All questions were finally answered - by none other than the actress herself - in an exclusive interview with Murai.com.my recently.

In this latest interview, Zizie called the marriage “fate’s arrangement”.

“I have not fully understood the meaning of ‘fate’ until now. Whatever that happened between Bung and I was not planned. I did not seduce him or anything,” she said.

She denied that she married the Kinabatangan MP for money.

“Till now, I’ve not asked a single sen from Bung. It’s up to him to give, because I’m still working. Acting is how I earn my living. He has also given his blessing for me to keep on acting.

“Those who have known me before this would know that I was not interested in married, older men with status. In fact, my ex-boyfriend was single, without a stable job and not well-to-do. Our relationship lasted for eight years.”

After the break-up, Zizie dated other guys, but none of them was right for her.

“Most of the guys just wanted to take advantage of me, while Bung, whom I’ve known before this, became a consistent good friend,” said Zizie.

It was far from the whirlwind romance that you might expect.

“Believe it or not, I’d always avoided him. I even ignored his calls or pretended to be busy because I did not want to talk to him,” she said.

Well, it seemed that fate has a strange way of working.

“Somehow, this person whom I didn’t like ended up being my husband. It all happened so quickly, as if it was arranged by God. So I just resigned myself to my fate and followed whatever path God had arranged for me.”

Bung might not be the best-looking man, but Zizie saw good qualities in him.

“He is firm, he knows what he wants. He is smart, courageous and brimming with ideas. I’m proud of him. Even though he’s not handsome, I think he has his uniqueness,” she said.

If so, why keep the marriage a secret then?

“I’ve always been a simple and honest person. I hate lying, let alone keeping secrets. However, when it came to this matter, I simply can’t share it. I don’t know why, maybe it’s because Bung has his own reasons that I should respect,” she replied.

Nevertheless, she was aware of the speculation and rumours that had been spreading like wildfire, as well as its effects, since the news broke out.

“These days, offers of work are fewer than before. Maybe people are concerned with the effects of the controversy.

“People are spreading different stories. It’s up to them to say whatever they want. Like I’ve said, I’m not one of those female celebrities who are after men with status, wealth or age.

“In fact, I am seldom involved in any controversy. If I'm not mistaken, this is my first controversy,” she concluded.
