Mark Wahlberg gets home schooled

He's one of Hollywood's critically acclaimed leading men and a 41-year-old father of four, but Mark Wahlberg believes it's never too late to get an education.

He dropped out of high school after the ninth grade (our Form 3) but this month he's going back to finish his diploma. Rather than sitting with students as young as his kids, however, his classroom will be in the comfort of his own home. He'll receive his tuition through a new online programme based in New Orleans.

Good luck getting your kids to help you with your algrebra homework, Dad!

Naysayers may scoff at the former Marky Mark, but he's determined to complete his studies.

"It's an actual diploma. I've got to take up all the courses that I missed, and I'm a little nervous," he told The Late Show With David Letterman, during an interview to promote his upcoming comedy Ted, about a man's boyhood teddy bear that comes to life and causes trouble for him. The film is the brainchild of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and stars Mila Kunis as Mark's love interest.

"They're going to give me whatever credits I already have, which is probably like one or two," he joked. "But I'm going to make it happen."

As for his chances at graduating valedictorian, he said he hopes to "just blast through it—hopefully do it within six to eight months" as he's got "a lot of downtime on sets in the trailer and stuff".

Mark is currently filming the crime drama Broken City, about a cop who suspects that the New York City mayor's wife (played by Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones) is up to no good.
