Whitney was found dead in bathtub
Tragic Whitney Houston looked wasted during a two-night booze binge before her shocking death.
The 48-year-old diva, one of the world's biggest singing stars before plunging into drink and drug addiction, was found with her face underwater in a hotel bath.
Bottles of prescription drugs like those used by Michael Jackson were in her suite in Beverly Hills.
It was revealed a film crew waiting to interview the fallen superstar at her hotel were told: "She's not coming... she's dead."
Ironically, the VH1 pop channel team were waiting to talk to Whitney about "getting back on track" following her dark spiral into addiction.
They were in a corridor outside her hotel room when Whitney's numbed long-time assistant Lynn Volkman burst out and told them to stop filming.
VH1 journalist Allison Samuels said: "She said, 'Whitney's not coming, Whitney's not coming' and then finally said, 'She's dead'."
Whitney, once one of the world's biggest stars with monster hits like I Will Always Love You, was found in the bath in her suite at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Her hairdresser — one of several members of her entourage in other parts of the fourth-floor suite — found her with her face under-water and her legs in the air.
Half a dozen bottles of prescription drugs including Lorazepam, Valium and Xanax — used as sleeping aids, relaxants and to ease anxiety — are said to have been found in the suite.
Whitney is thought to have passed out before slipping under the water.
The pills, like those popped by Michael Jackson, can have a sedative effect when mixed with alcohol. And Whitney's death on Saturday afternoon followed two wild nights of boozy partying.
The singer's entourage, which also included her stylist and two bodyguards, grew worried after she had been in the bathroom for more than an hour.
The hairdresser screamed when she went in to check. One of the bodyguards dragged Whitney from the tub and tried to revive her, helped by hotel staff. But she was already cold.
An emergency call was made at 3.43pm and paramedics who arrived two minutes later resumed resuscitation attempts.
But there was nothing to be done and Whitney — also an accomplished actress and star of hit 1992 movie The Bodyguard — was pronounced dead at 3.55pm.
She had been due to attend the annual pre-Grammy Awards party thrown at the Hilton hours later by her 79-year-old mentor Clive Davis, the music mogul who launched her career. The bash went ahead as she lay dead upstairs.
Whitney's body was finally removed from the hotel yesterday morning and taken in a coroner's van to Los Angeles County morgue for a post mortem examination. Her death caused an outpouring of grief among relatives, friends and fan.
Her ex-husband Bobby Brown — the R&B star blamed by many for Whitney's drugs demise — declared his love for her as he broke down on stage while performing in Mississippi.
Whitney, who lived in Atlanta, Georgia, was in LA for last night's Grammies, an event at which she triumphed six times. And she partied hard before she died.
