Eddie Peng hopes people will focus on his work rather than on his gossips

Rumours end where true wisdom lies - that's Taiwanese idol Eddie Peng’s philosophy when it comes to rumours, be it about Jolin Tsai, or his recent contract problem with his agency.

The good-looking lad said he can do nothing to stop rumours that he is linked romantically to the pop princess.

“The media insist on portraying us as a couple and if the public loves reading it, then I can do nothing about it.”

He denied that the media’s excessive coverage of the matter has affected their relationship, adding that he still keeps in touch with her.

“However, it’s hard for us to hang out together, because the paparazzi are always around her. They can create a story even when they don’t have a picture of us together. I can’t imagine what they would write if we are photographed together.”

On his contract problem, he said, “I know that the media is interested in this, but I prefer to leave it to professionals and not comment at the moment. As for negative reports surrounding the issue, time will tell. So far I’m not affected and I still continue with my job, so I hope people will focus on my work instead. I will definitely inform the public once it’s settled.”

Peng admitted that at times he was a little frustrated by the way the media tend to care more about gossip rather than his performance, but he understands that that’s just the way they work.

“For instance, I myself would be interested to read about the gossip regarding my favourite actors too. I would love to know what’s going on with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie [laughs]. So I just laugh it off, as long as I know that it would not affect my job.”

Speaking of his job, the 27-year-old was recently appointed as the spokesperson for Puma “Create Your Own Style” campaign, along with Hong Kong model Gaile Lai.

Earlier on, the pair were flown to South Korea, for a photo shoot by well-known Korean photographer Ryoo Hyun Young.

“My first runway show in Taiwan was for Puma, with (fellow actor) Peter Ho. This time I’m very happy to be its spokesperson. Maybe they think my image and appearance are in line with the energetic, cheerful, sunny, colourful and joyful characteristics of the brand,” he said, adding that Lai was fun to work with.

“She is very cute, very clever and professional, not to mention that she has her own style. The atmosphere of the photo shoot was really fun.

“The pictures came out vibrant and full of energy and joy. I liked every one of it. It was very unlike a photo shoot. As captured by the photographer, we were being ourselves, leaping with joy, playing tic-tac-toe and changing our hairstyles.”

When it comes to style, Peng said he dresses according to his mood each day.

“I don’t really stick to a certain style. Sometimes I’m in the mood for baggy clothes, sometimes I’m into slim-fit pants. There are times when I even go for the ‘worker’ look.

“Recently I’m playing a boxer in this new movie, so I tend to dress like one, with light and comfortable wear that is water- and wind-proof.”
