Uproar over knighting sexy Salma

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has sparked fury by giving France's top honour to sex symbol Salma Hayek — the wife of one of his closest pals.

He has been accused of making a laughing stock of the country's honours system with the award to the Mexican-born actress, 45, wed to businessman Francois-Henri Pinault.

She has become a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour — a French knighthood — for "services to the French Republic".

Salma — the voice of Kitty Softpaws in animated movie Puss in Boots — recently boasted about her very large breasts, saying she prayed for them as a young girl.

One ex-minister refused the same award in protest and critics said Napoleon "would be turning in his grave".

Other foreign actors have been given the honour, but they were global superstars like Clint Eastwood and Robert Redford. - www.thesun.co.uk
