Barmy Ministers have blown £13,000 — putting FIVE posh pictures in new frames.

The staggering sum was spent by the Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt's department in the past 18 months despite the economic crisis.

And it is part of an incredible £216,000 the Coalition has splashed out on framing and hanging art since it came to power.

Among the artworks is a bizarre photo of broken fans. It was mounted in a special light box at a cost of £2,250 and is on display in the Cabinet Office.

A stripy painting by Bridget Riley was given a £2,598 aluminium frame while another job cost £3,780.

Labour MP Luciana Berger said: "Taxpayers' money is being wasted on ministerial perks when it could be spent on jobs."

A Department spokesman said much of the cash had gone on staging a public exhibition of Government art.
